Wimmer Eyes
Elko Speedway
After a month break, the ASAMT
is back in action
Wausau, WI Thursday, June 4
th
– After nearly a month between ASA
Midwest Tour events, Chris Wimmer heads across the border into
Minnesota for the Elko 100 and the second ASAMT race of the
year. “I raced a few times since the ASAMT opener in Madison”
says Wimmer, “But I’m really excited to get to Elko and get
another Midwest Tour race under my belt this year.”
Wimmer, fresh off a top-five finish at the ASAMT
opener in Madison, hopes to keep that momentum rolling to Elko,
a place where he’s had recent success. Last Fall Wimmer battled
with Dan Fredrickson for over 75-laps for the win at Elko, it
was Fredrickson who took the checkers, but that run gives Wimmer
added confidence going in to the weekend. “That fall race last
year my car was really good,” says Wimmer, “Dan’s raced at Elko
so long and knows how to get around that place so well I knew
he’d be tough to beat, but hopefully we can get the #52 just as
good or better than last year for the race this Saturday.”
This race at Elko also kicks off a busy month
for Wimmer and the ASA Midwest Tour. After Elko, the Tour heads
to Cedar Rapids, IA June 11
th,
Illiana Speedway June 18th,
and then back to Madison International Speedway June 29th.
In between those races, Wimmer also competes at State Park
Speedway. “This month is going to be a bit crazy,” says Wimmer,
“The ASA schedule really picks up, we race almost every weekend,
and even on the off weeks, I’m racing the Newsline Nine House
Car at State Park Speedway. It’s going to be a lot of work, but
I’m looking forward to being at the track one, if not two, times
a week.”
Qualifying takes place at 4pm Saturday at Elko
Speedway in Minnesota, with racing set to start at 6pm. Tickets
can be purchased at the gate. For more information on the ASA
Midwest Tour please visit www.asamidwesttour.com.

Earns Top-Five Finish in ASAMT Opener
Sets
fast time as well
Wausau, WI May 4th, 2010 – Chris Wimmer opened the 2010 race
season with a great showing at Madison International Speedway.
The Wausau, WI native not only set fast time for the Joe Shear
136, but also drove his #52 Chevy to a top-five finish. “It’s
definitely a great start to the season,” says Wimmer, “I wanted
to go down to Madison and start the season off well and I think
that’s exactly what I did.”
Wimmer’s Heinrich Landscaping Chevy was fast all weekend. He was
in the top two of every single practice session both Saturday
and Sunday. “The car was really good right off the truck,” says
Wimmer, “We barely changed anything all weekend. It’s a really
good feeling to go to the track and be fast right away.”
The Wimmer Racing team proved how fast the #52 Chevy was when he
set fast time in qualifying. Wimmer, who was the final car to
qualify, got loose during his second lap, but managed to drop
three tenth of a second to lay down a lap of 17.57 seconds.
“That second lap made me a little nervous,” says Wimmer, “I was
surprised when I heard my time, I wasn’t sure I could go that
fast. It was all very exciting and thanks to Oregon Chains, the
fast qualifier gets a chainsaw. I wanted one really badly last
year and didn’t get one, so to take one home after the
first race this year is awesome.”
With the invert, Wimmer was forced to start the 136-lap feature
from the 14th position. He
worked his way up to 8th by the break at lap 100. “My car got
really loose during the first 100 laps,” says Wimmer, “I’m not
sure exactly what it was, but the car was just not handling how
it was before.”
The crew went to work, switching around some spring rubbers, and
giving the #52 more grip for the final 36 laps. Wimmer
maneuvered his way from 8th to 5th during the final 36 laps,
which went caution free, to bring home a top-five finish in the
first race of the year. “It’s a really good start,” says Wimmer,
“Of course you want to win them all, but to go to Madison and
have a good car and finish in the top-five is an awesome way to
start the season, hopefully it will only go up from there.”
Wimmer now sets his sights on the State Park Speedway opener
May20th, where he will drive the Newsline Nine #52 Chevy. “My
dad and brother bought the racetrack up in Wausau,” says Wimmer, “I
used to race there all the time and I’m really looking forward
to racing there again. They’re having nine bigger races, and
thanks to Brandon Selle, and our sponsor Newsline Nine, that car
will be on the track for every show.”
The next ASAMT race is Saturday, June 5th at Elko Speedway in
Elko, Minnesota. For more sponsorship information for the 2010
season please contact Jana Jurkovich at jjurkovich@gmail.com
Wimmer Set for ASAMT Season Opener
Heads to Madison International speedway to kick of 2010 season
Wausau, WI April 30th, 2010 – Chris Wimmer prepares for the Joe
Shear Classic 136 and the ASA Midwest Tour opener Sunday at
Madison International Raceway. “I’m just really excited to get the
season started,” says Wimmer, “I’ve been working on the car for a
few months now and I’m just ready to get to the track and start
the 2010 season.”
Wimmer experienced recent success at MIS; last year, in a non-ASAMT
event, he passed Matt Kenseth in the final laps of the Wisconsin
All-Star Challenge for his second win of the year. “My car was
really good there for that race,” says Wimmer, “of course it’s a
different year and the conditions won’t be exactly the same, but I
hope my set-up will be close and I’ll be able to run up front.”
After a fourth place finish in ASA Midwest Tour points two years
ago, Wimmer cracked the top three last year and was in the hunt
for the championship through the final race at Oktoberfest. With
one win, six top-five finishes and eight top-ten finished in 2009,
Wimmer hopes to pick up from where he left off and compete for a
championship once again. “Winning the point championship is a
definitely a goal I have this year,” says Wimmer, “As cliché as
it sounds, you just have to take it one race at a time, and it all
starts Sunday in Madison.”
For those who cannot make the ASAMT opener, for the first time
this year, you will be able to watch select ASAMT races in tape
delay fashion on FS North and FS Wisconsin. The Joe Shear Classic
will air on Saturday, May15th. “This TV deal is really neat,” says
Wimmer, “As of right now I think at least five races will be shown
in tape delay on FSN. It’s great for us as drivers to have that
exposure and it’s also great for our sponsors who will receive
more coverage. I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Wimmer would like to thank some sponsors who have come on board
early in the 2010 season. Heinrich Landscaping, Leo’s Upper Dells
Bar, All Star Performance, Wiley X, Autometer, Philly’
